Carex hybrid (August 2008)

Kathy Pendergrass alerted us to the presence of an odd Carex at Mt. Pisgah near Eugene. It has the woolly perigynia of C. pellita arranged in arching, androgynous spikes like C. obnupta. We think it is a C. pellita/obnupta hybrid; both species are present at the site. Or they seem to be. The C. pellita at the site is odd. Is it really C. pellita? Stay tuned.
